About 3rd Party Extensions:
We added Connectix's Speed Doubler 2.01 and Motorola's Math Library extension LibMoto software accelerators to this test system before installing any replacement hardware.Speed Doubler is well known to provide increased finder copy speed and emulation speed, and is standard on the Power Computing machines. Unlike many magazines, at least we're letting you know that it is installed.
Motorola's Math extension ( LibMoto ) is known to increase floating point speed, and is available free from their web site. We were amazed at the difference it made in the MacBench FPU scores - driving the XLR8 score from slightly under 400 to over 600, and the Newer Tech card to over 700. We have yet to see a problem running this extension and highly recommend it. However, before using it we suggest you read the LibMoto FAQ . (Note: Virex 5.6.6 is reported to have a conflict with LibMoto)
Note: It appears that Motorola's StarMax systems are now shipping with the Mathlib extension - as their latest ads show faster FPU benchmark graphs than comparable systems at the same clock speed.
