I have been successfully running FCP 3 on a duel gig (OSX) since Friday. I migrated from a DP 800.
I did have problems at one point installing FCP 3 both on 9.2.2 and 10.1.2 on the DP 800. It worked fine in X and them when I installed it on 9.2.2. I got system Id error. It traced it back to one of tow things. My Matrox card (which I pulled) and possible multiple version/copies of FCP on other HD (I back up the contents of my TI4 onto my desktop and cloned the primary HD. These backups from my Ti4 have unique serial numbers the HD clones did not)
When I installed into the DP1000...I made sure there was no Matrox card AND no other copies of FCP. I installed 2.0 fresh in 9.2.2...upgraded it to 3.0 and them rebooted into X and installed 3.0 into it.
Maybe I'm just lucky but it works and is rather Zippy on renders. I've captured, edited, and printed to tape in X. I've also MPEG 2 compressed the files in 9.2.2 and compiled them in DVDSP without incident.
I believe that other people are having trouble. Unfortunately I think the answer is a clean install without any third part hardware and multiple versions of FCP on their drive(s).
I have heard rumor of flaky system ID files causing problems.
BTW, I am Certified FCP instructor and Systems Administrator of the Washington, DV FCP users group. So maybe the Apple gods smiled upon me :)
NOW as for my Formac card with my SGI 1600sw under OSX 10.1.2...now that a different story....

There is a known problem installing FCP3 on both OS9 &
OSX. The following workaround should help:
1. Boot up in OS 9
2. Update software to 9.2.2 (if not already done so)
3. Update Quicktime
4. Run FCP 3 OS9 Installer
5. RUN FINAL CUT PRO 3 AND REGISTER THE APPLICATION
The installer will have created the following folders:
A. Harddisk:Applications (Mac OS 9):Final Cut Pro
3.0
B. Harddisk:System Folder:Preferences:Final Cut Pro
Data
C. Harddisk:System Folder:Preferences:Final Cut Pro
User Data
D. Harddisk:System Folder:Help:Final Cut Pro Help
REMOVE THE FOLDERS "Final Cut Pro User Data" AND
"Final Cut Pro Help" (MAKE SURE YOU COPY THESE TO
ANOTHER DISK).
6. BOOT UP IN OSX: Open System Preferences in X and
START Classic Environment.
7. Insert the FCP installation:
8. Update Quicktime
9. Run FCP 3 OS X Installer
10. RUN FINAL CUT PRO 3 AND REGISTER THE APPLICATION
11. Open System Preferences in X and STOP Classic
Environment
12. From System Preferences select STARTUP DISK and
select OS9.
13. Boot up in OS9
14. RETURN THE FOLDERS "Final Cut Pro User Data" AND
"Final Cut Pro Help" to their original locations
15. RUN FCP3 in OS9 to ensure everything runs properly. Slim I.

Hi, had problems installing as well.
But after starting up Classic under osX all the way I was able to unstall afterwards.
One problem resists: FCP 3/OSX doesn't recognize the time code from
the SONY DHR1000VC Recorder. Under OS9.2.2 it does.
kind regards

Mike,
If you follow the 2-pop thread (
http://discussions.2-pop.com/cgi/boards/fcp30.cgi?read=16971), you'll notice
that FCP3 is running on Dual 1GHZ machines if you install/run it in 9.2.2
first, then attempt to install/run it in OS X.
I had initially had issues with the FCP installer on my 867mhz, and stumbled
upon this very same workaround. I think it has to do with the lack of
intelligence of the current crop of OS X installer apps. The OS 9 installer
seems to be a little better, and then upgrading under X finished the job.

I am running Dual 1GHz machine with 512MB of RAM, 80GB internal hard drive with a second 40GB internal, a Radeon PCI card for the second monitor, and have installed FCP 3.0 and have absolutely no problems running it. Maybe itĚs a batch of CDs that were misprinted when it came time to duplication.
Great Site!
