Making a OT/PPP Login Script
by Kent Kanja

This is how you generate an OT PPP login script:

Step 1:

setup a dial-in, entering username, password, and phone # in the appropriate fields. It is very important that you enter username & password correctly!!!

Step 2:

Click the "Options..." button.

Step 3:

Click on the "Protocol" tab to bring up the protocol sub-window.

Step 4:

Turn on the "Connect to a command line host" checkbox, and select the "Use terminal window" radio button.

Step 5:

click "OK" and then click "Connect".

Step 6:

Once a connection to the isp is established, a terminal window will appear, the first thing to do is click the "Settings..." button at the bottom left in the terminal window.

Step 7:

Turn on the "Prompt to save Connect Script on close" checkbox, then click "OK".

Step 8:

Back at the terminal window, enter the required info to start up PPP. This is sometimes something like typing in "ppp" and then the username and password. It is very important that the correct username and password were entered as in step 1 or else the script may not function properly in the future.

Step 9:

After entering the required info, a save as window will open and will all the login procedure to be saved as a script. It is advisable that after saving this script that it be backed up somewhere, in case you ever need it again after a clean system install or something similar.

Step 10:

The final step. Go back to "Options..." "Protocol" and select the "Use Connect Script" radio button. "Import Script..." the script you just saved, and you're done.

Chris Gamper wrote with one note that may also be of interest:

" The only problems I ever encounter are related to long pauses during heavy usage periods for our network. There will be a long pause between entering the password and returning to the unix prompt. The script only waits for about 15 seconds then returns an error (Couldn't match script ">"). Just hangup and redial."

Thanks to all who replied with tips!
