Revised OS X Java Docs ('update' blocks older web plugins): (See below for later info.)
Saw Apple's latest support docs on Java tonight - Aug 28th dated doc about the Java Web plug-in blocked (see listing below) and Java updates available for OS X on August 28, 2013 (doc dated 29th). This doc refers to Java 7 updates/installs for OS X 10.7.5/OS X 10.8.3 and later, and using Software Update to get Java updates (Java 6) for OS X 10.6.8. (Java 7 always required 10.7.3 or later and is hosted by Oracle/Java.com. Java 6 updates have been available for Lion/Mtn Lion also like previous Java for OS X 2013-004 (Java 6 Update 51) in June 2013.)
Although it doesn't list any specific update versions, typically docs like this meant an update was available, but as of appx 11:30PM Eastern Wednesday night, I don't see any later updates for Java 7 or Java 6 than what was posted on June 18th. (Java 7 Update 25 at Oracle/Java.com and Apple's "Java 6 Update 16" for OS X 10.6.8 and for Lion/MLion "Java for OS X 2013-004" - both actually Java 6 Update 51, which had later fixed builds released on June 21st.) There may be updates coming soon (or another build/fix without a version change?), unless Apple only revised the date in the doc title to today (Aug 28th) - appears previous doc rev had April 16th in the title based on Google cache, although there were Java updates on June 18th. (The June 21st fixed builds of Java 6 Update 51 from Apple kept the same update number, just revised the build number.) I don't use Java/don't install it anymore but I know some use software that requires it. Java updates typically have important security patches but may break some software, so you may want to check with the dev/vendor of any java based software you depend on before updating and check for feedback. (Apple's OS X forums and/or forums for any java software you use. And of course always have a Backup.)
Update 8/29/2013: The original Java alert from 6/18/2013 (date of last Java update) is showing revised 08/29/2013. See Vulnerability Summary for CVE-2013-2463.

Apple Update Blocks Older OS X Java Web Plugins: (8/29/2013)
I'm not sure why Apple took so long to block the older Java versions, but here's the info from their security mail (sent Aug 30th) regarding blocking Java Web plugin versions older than the June 18th, 2013 released versions.
"APPLE-SA-2013-08-29-1 OS X: Java Web plug-in blocked
Due to multiple security issues in older versions, Apple has updated
the web plug-in blocking mechanism to disable all versions prior to:
Java 6 update 51
Java 7 update 25"
Again, Java 6 update 51 and Java 7 Update 25 were released June 18th. (Although revised builds of Java 6 Update 51 were released a few days later.)
