Apple comments on CPU Security Vulnerability affecting all Macs and iOS Devices:
Apple (finally) posted an article on speculative execution vulnerabilities in ARM-based and Intel CPUs. (Regarding "Meltdown" and "Spectre".)
"... All Mac systems and iOS devices are affected, but there are no known exploits impacting customers at this time. Since exploiting many of these issues requires a malicious app to be loaded on your Mac or iOS device, we recommend downloading software only from trusted sources such as the App Store.
Apple has already released mitigations in iOS 11.2, macOS 10.13.2, and tvOS 11.2 to help defend against Meltdown. Apple Watch is not affected by either Meltdown or Spectre. In the coming days we plan to release mitigations in Safari to help defend against Spectre. We continue to develop and test further mitigations for these issues and will release them in upcoming updates of iOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS..." (full article includes background info and details.)
FYI: Security Updates for macOS 10.13.2, Safari (10.11 to 10.13.2), & iOS 11.2.2 released Jan 8th.
And Jan. 23rd Info/Downloads of macOS 10.13.3 and Security Update 2018-001 for Sierra & El Capitan. (Includes Meltdown patch for 10.12.6 & 10.11.6. High Sierra patched in previous updates.)

- Maybe it's time for Apple to spin off the Mac as a separate company (zdnet)
(For years I wished for a separate group to develop an affordable Mac Mini Tower with standard form factor components (graphics card, PS, motherboard, etc) but gave up hope it'll ever happen. I hope the modular Mac Pro will have user replaceable ram, storage, etc. and a commitment to future upgrades for graphics cards. A lesson learned from the 2013 Mac Pro. As I said in a blog post February 2017 (before the design limits of the 2013 Mac Pro were finally admitted, and future "modular Mac Pro" announced), make one Mac's design focus an upgradeable Workhorse, vs. a closed Work of Art. That benefits the company (lower costs/faster inclusion of future component upgrades, avoiding a stagnant product impression) and the customer.)
