Looking for Natively Supported Mini-PCIe SATA Card (for iMac/Mini eSATA Mod)
If anyone knows of a natively supported in OS X (for example JMB360/362 or Marvel 88912SE based) Mini-PCIe SATA card, send a note/link. (I googled for mini-pcie and chipsets listed, nothing useful found.) The previous articles on iMac (Mini-PCIe) eSATA Card Mod used a Sil3132 based card that requires drivers.
(Some of us however had bad experiences with JMB360 Expresscards in some MacBook Pros, so I'd suggest testing for data corruption if using one.) And no PM support with the JMB360 (not sure w/362) or the Marvel 88912SE. (The JMB 36x chips are SATA II, the Marvel 88912SE is SATA III/6G. There may be other natively supported models, these are just some I have owned/used in Expresscard or std PCIe card form.)
And I had a reader (w/some eSATA cases/drives) ask about a 2011 iMac eSATA mod, but personally I'd wait to see what 'Thunderbolt' external drives/cases appear later this year.
(The eSATA card mod has also been done to 2006-2007 Mac Minis, but later models do not have a Mini-PCIe card slot.)
